Art Games That Teach Depth

With the 6 basic lines you have practiced you can virtually draw anything. Of course a little application of some ‘artistic concepts’ will add some spice to your elementary classroom art projects. We start with a simple drawing of the zig zag and the wiggle in an art exercise that develops control and encourages variation. We then move to a free form. closed zig zag and wiggle shape. The ‘Artabet spice’ is next with the first ART CONCEPT- In Front and Behind. This is an Engaging Art Game and a perfect ‘imagination tool’ for K to 6.

Follow the sequence of drawings below and try to ‘SEE’ where it is going. This is a Level 1 Drawing Game that prepares the elementary student for seeing eventually in 3-D. Hang on and let’s create some art designs with this ‘Perceptual’ art game.

Zig Zags and Wiggles With Varied Patterns

Wiggles and Zig Zags

Wiggles In A Puzzle

Start with blue them fit the 3 light greens into main piece. Add orange, darker green etc. You can simplify the puzzle depending on which grade you are teaching. K-2 can start with 2 pieces and build from there, 3-6 can actually explore the concept and create amazing art puzzles.

Study the 'Big Blue Wiggle Shape' that is "in front'.Now see the light green wiggle shape 'behind' it. Each shape is placed behind the the one in front.

Random Zig Zag Closed Plane Figure

Free Form Zig Zag Shape. Start the zig zag line and keep it moving until you get back to where it started.Remember that a line starts … it flows…it ends.

Interlocking Art Concept Using Zig Zags

Start with the RED zig zag shape in the middle. All the rest are behind.Hop over as you come to the one in front.’SEE’ it going behind. You must see in front and behind as it is the “DOOR OF PERCEPTION’ that opens to 3-D drawing. Use these Engaging Art Games and explore the Concept Of In Front and Behind.
