In 1998, I moved to a new city with my wife and three small children. I had no employer. Little savings. It was a new summer in a new city.
My family was running out of money. But I wasn’t worried. Because for most of my adult life, I’ve done the same thing to make money every summer: run art camps for children.
As a full-time art and music teacher, summer is when the cheques from my regular students end. I’ve needed to supplement my income. And art camps have kept me fully employed.
I’ve run summer art camps in Vancouver, BC.
I’ve run summer art camps in Nelson, BC.
I’ve run summer art camps at my 50-acre forest home near Winlaw, BC.

How to earn a good income with summer art camps
Obviously, money isn’t a prime motivator in my life. I like painting. Teaching to pay my bills. And enjoying being with my wife, Sara.
But, believe it or not, summer art camps are the most lucrative business I do all year. Last year, I’ve averaged $200 an hour. I make enough in 2 weeks to support my wife and I all summer.
I’ve also never have a shortage of students. And if I was more motivated by money, I could probably work like a dog all summer and take off somewhere warm in the winter. But that isn’t me.
I’ve been running summer art camps every year since I was 31.
You can see a video of my Artabet Summer Art Camp program below. I run this art camp every year.
How much will you earn from a summer art camp?
It’s very simple to earn $400 to $800 for your first camp. After that, your income will go up each time.
Summer art camps are an easy sell to parents. I make $6,000 for two weeks of work each summer. If you’re more ambitious, you could run these programs each week.
I should also note: I live in a very small rural town. It’s not even a town. It’s a gas station and bridge. The biggest city near me has 10,000 people.
For teachers who live in a medium-sized city, you’ll have no shortage of opportunity to grow and expand your camp to your heart’s desire.
